The Northern Rivers Golf Association and Jack Newton Junior Golf Foundation – Junior Development Day

Mullumbimby Golf Club ran the first Junior Development day of the year and the third in its history last Thursday the 10th of January.

The aim of the day is to give children the opportunity to give golf a go! 


The day was based around having lots of fun but also learning the fundamentals of golf at the same time. 


The 30 kids from were all from within the Byron shire and most have attended a golf session with either Nicole Picken the Club Golf pro at Mullumbimby or Chris Graham the pro from Ocean shores Golf Club or one of the many School sessions which they have run over the past year.

Nicole and Chris believe it is very important to work on the kids basic fundamental movement skills ie catching, throwing, running, skipping etc. Which is why they spend the first 20 minutes of the session working on these skills, kicking footballs throwing and catching. Along with a lot of laughter. 

Nicole Picken said  “It is really important that we continue to encourage and expose kids to the game of golf as they are the future of our clubs”

The day was a massive success, the kids all went home with full stomachs, free hats, balls, junior golf books and a better understanding of the game.


Mullumbimby golf course hopes to run more junior events during 2013.
